A Call For Voices *This is a call for voices. If you are a loved one of someone currently using methadone, or a loved one of someone who has passed away because of methadone use I would love to hear from you. I am a documentary filmmaker working one a film that will expose the realities of methadone and the effects it has on our society. I am asking for stories to share that will help reform regulation of this drug, and also take away the social stigma of what it is to be on methadone. * * * *My commitment to this film comes from a very real place in my life and the life of my family. My father has been on methadone for over 35 years. My brother for five. My family battles regularly with the health issues methadone creates for both my father and brother, as well as the social stigma's that come along with someone on this medication. * * * *I am driven to explore all angles of the methadone culture. I want to hear from the loved ones who have lost someone to methadone deaths, the loved ones who are losing someone to methadone life, I want to hear from the methadone users, and I want all the same from the other side. I plan to reach out and explore what the people at the clinics believe, I want to hear from the pharmaceutical companies and the government run committees that "regulate" this drug. * * * *Please help me bring a strong voice out to the world that tells the full story of methadone. You can contact me directly by emailing voiceweneed@gmail.com. Tell me about yourself, what drew you to reach out and where you are from. I look forward to hearing from you.* * * *All the best!* * * *Angelica*

PostSubject: Checking in on Everyone   Fri May 18, 2012 7:48 am

Good Morning, Sorry I have been absent I have been visiting with my two grandchildren. The oldest my granddaughter was born one month after Wendy died. My faith in our Merciful God and her birth helped save my life.It is great to see the web site is growing although I'm sad to say the death toll continues to rise from Methadone related deaths. At least now when people start to search for any information they will hopefully find us.... those who walk in our shoes...the shoes nobody wants to wear. If I can help anyone do not hesitate to ask, please, I can share my email address and phone number by private messaging or through Tonya. You are all in my thoughts and prayers daily. Love, Bren

Please feel free to share any emotions you are experiencing so we can help one another on this journey. There is no right or wrong when faced with the stages of grief. Has your phone quit ringing from certain family members or friends or people that normally use to stop by your home quit coming ? You know people avoid speaking our child's name for fear they will upset us. When we want them to talk about them because they will always be a part of our lives. Do you find it difficult to go out in public, go to work or even bathe? Are you afraid at times that f you allow yourself to cry you may not be able to stop? Have you had people to say the most ignorant or ask you ignorant questions? Have you had trouble feeling close to those you love most for fear they might die? Are you and you spouse, significant other having trouble communicating ? Remember you are not Alone and hopefully you will find this place safe to share and open your heart. If you would like to share any stories about your child...by all means please do. We want to celebrate their lives, love and remember them.

Today was a very hard day for me. I agreed to have Jason's picture used on a Prescription Drug abuse campaign in Yuba City, California where he died and today they sent me a picture of one of the bus stops where his picture was placed today. I was in my doctor's office when I opened the e-mail and I had forgotten to take my high blood pressure medicine pill today. My blood pressure was 164/103! I took my pill when I got home! The picture they used was one of him and his dog Roxie from Christmas 2007. As hard as this is I know it is what Jason would have wanted. He would have wanted to try and save young lives so noone else ends up like him. It is still so hard! God bless the addicts, the family members who love them and suffer with them, and those who suffer from severe pain!

Hey Sharon, Days like you had yesterday makes it extremely hard knowing we can not comfort one another face to face. How kind of you to share Jason's picture with Roxie and his story with the Prescription Drug Abuse Campaign. Yes I agree that our children want us to do what we can to help those battling addiction or that have been negligently treated by the Medical Field. This might sound crazy but somehow I can't help but feel that God and our children find a way to bring us together... that we are put in each other's path intentionally. Please keep a check on your blood pressure it might have already been a little high before you opened the email. Then getting upset it spiked really high. I am sorry for the circumstances but I am grateful you have been put in my life. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Bren

Bren,

Thanks! I will remember to take my high blood pressure medicine from now on. The billboards of Jason state "Abusing Prescription Drugs has Deadly Consequences" next to Jason's picture with Roxie and then it says Jason Oct 30, 1984 - Feb 5, 2009 under his picture. They did a really good job on the billboards and they are supposedly at all the bus stops in Yuba City, California. I will go up there to visit my granddaughter in Sep and then I will really see them. My hope is that someone will see Jason's picture and maybe they will get clean and sober. Perhaps another person will be saved and another Mother won't have to suffer with the loss we all share or shed tears for what was and now for what will never be. God bless you for all you do to help others. I have my 3 year old granddaughter coming tomorrow with the other Grandma and they will be here through 29 May. I will be busy enjoying my little Angel, Trinity. She looks just like her Daddy, Jason. I will be back with you all once they leave on 29 May. Hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!

Love,
Sharon

So many Mothers are going through a difficult time as the loss of their child has changed their lives forever. Please, if only once stop and take time to lift them up in prayer. The hurt they feel is indescribable and can be a struggle to get through each day. It can feel unfair not to be able to say ," I love you " one more time this haunts countless Mothers. They have lost their child in the, " Blink of an Eye."

Love and Prayers, Bren

To share in letters, phone calls to the State and Federal Authorities if you need help let us know , please. Contact with any or all Authorities are made on a regular basis. And don't forget a new letter to the FDA is being drafted if you have any input it is welcomed. Not ALL Methadone deaths are being reported to the CDC and we need to work on this problem, ASAP. The Holiday Season of 2012 is upon us... Thanksgiving and Christmas. For many it has not even been a year to go through the most important times when we make memories that we cherish over the years. Our family and friends are going about their lives that have not been over shadowed by grief. For us the only celebration going through our hearts are being reunited with our children. However, those that have spouses and other children we do the best we can to continue on with traditions that had we once had enjoyed. For some it may simply be to early to find yourself participating in other family functions. No One should be made to feel guilty, pressured or told , "to get over it," while we are striving to get through a normal day.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM HEAVEN

I still hear the songs
I still see the lights
I still feel your love

on cold wintry nights

I still share your hopes
and all of your cares
I'll even remind you
to please say your prayers

I just want to tell you
you still make me proud
You stand head and shoulders
above all the crowd

Keep trying each moment
to stay in His grace
I came here before you
to help set your place

You don't have to be
perfect all of the time
He forgives you the slip
If you continue the climb

To my family and friends
please be thankful today
I'm still close beside you
In a new special way

I love you all dearly
now don't shed a tear
Cause I'm spending my
Christmas with Jesus this year

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know you are in my heart and in my prayers. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas, despite your loss. I had a nice time but all it would take to bring on the tears would be to hear a certain song or a memory would stop by. Jason is always with me in my heart and I know he wouldn't want me to be sad but sometimes it can't be helped. I hope that 2013 brings us peace, comfort, and new laws restricting dangerous opiates like Methadone and Oxycontin. Hopefully lives can be saved and some other parents will never have to feel the loss we all share. God bless you all and please let me know if anyone needs to talk or if I can provide any support. Just know you are not alone.

Sincerely,
Sharon Sykes

Be sure to welcome Fay Rose and read the article she has written under Methadone Blog on the home page. Fay lost a loved one Dean her boyfriend from a negligent Doctor over prescribing prescription drugs. How many have to die ?
