A Call For Voices *This is a call for voices. If you are a loved one of someone currently using methadone, or a loved one of someone who has passed away because of methadone use I would love to hear from you. I am a documentary filmmaker working one a film that will expose the realities of methadone and the effects it has on our society. I am asking for stories to share that will help reform regulation of this drug, and also take away the social stigma of what it is to be on methadone. * * * *My commitment to this film comes from a very real place in my life and the life of my family. My father has been on methadone for over 35 years. My brother for five. My family battles regularly with the health issues methadone creates for both my father and brother, as well as the social stigma's that come along with someone on this medication. * * * *I am driven to explore all angles of the methadone culture. I want to hear from the loved ones who have lost someone to methadone deaths, the loved ones who are losing someone to methadone life, I want to hear from the methadone users, and I want all the same from the other side. I plan to reach out and explore what the people at the clinics believe, I want to hear from the pharmaceutical companies and the government run committees that "regulate" this drug. * * * *Please help me bring a strong voice out to the world that tells the full story of methadone. You can contact me directly by emailing voiceweneed@gmail.com. Tell me about yourself, what drew you to reach out and where you are from. I look forward to hearing from you.* * * *All the best!* * * *Angelica*

PostSubject: My First Born and my Only Son Jason Healey Died From a Methadone Overdose   Have you lost a love one due to methadone? Please share here. EmptyWed Apr 25, 2012 3:37 am

This is a recent post I placed on the oxyabusekills.com website. "I first signed this guestbook in 2003 when my son Jason Healey became addicted to Oxycontin. I signed it again in 2004 when I thought he would be cured by the drug suboxone. Then I would sign it again in 2009 when Jason died of a Methadone overdose due to Oxycontin addiction. I battled drugs for 10 years with my son. I tried so hard to help him but in the end he could not save himself. He had promised me on his 24th birthday, 30 Oct 2008 that I didn't have to worry about him, that he didn't want to risk death, so he would not take Oxycontin or Heroin anymore. Oxycontin had led him to Heroin and he had accidentally overdosed and almost died on Heroin in 2006. I still worried for my son because he had relapsed so many times in the past. On 5 Feb 2009 I would get the call that I had so dreaded for all those years. It was worse than I had ever imagined it would be. My beautiful first born and my only 24 year old son was dead. He died of .63 mg of Methadone. He must have thought it was a safer choice but unfortunately for Jason it was just as deadly. It has been 3 years now since Jason was found dead but for me it still seems like yesterday. My life has been forever changed and I will always feel a sense of loss and sadness. Every year I stand before a crowd in Yuba City, CA where my son died and tell my son's story in hopes that someone's child will be saved and that their Mother will never have to feel the pain and the loss that I will feel every day for the rest of my life. If you are suffering from addiction please get help. If you are a parent, loved one, or friend struggling to help someone who is addicted, my heart goes out to you. If you are a parent who has lost a child to overdose my heart especially goes out to you because I know exactly how you feel. Oxycontin was the beginning of the end for my son Jason and for so many others. I served for 24 years in the USAF to protect our country from enemies but I couldn't protect my son from drugs and the drug dealers. There is a WAR going on in this country and it is a WAR on drugs. Our children are dying every day and as parents we all need to join the fight! I will continue to tell Jason's story about the horror of drugs like Oxycontin and Methadone in hopes of saving lives and that one day soon Oxycontin will finally be banned and Methadone will be kept in the Methadone clinics where it belongs instead of being sent home or issued in pill form as prescriptions for pain where it can be abused, sold on the streets, and kill our children. God bless our children, our families, and this country. Sharon Healey, USAF MSgt Retired"

Sharon,

Thanks so much for sharing your story. My heart goes out to you. It will be 10 months on the 30th of this month that I lost my precious baby girl. It just does't seem real......and like you seems like just yesterday. Will this pain ever end? My daughter also struggled with an oxycontin addiction. I tried so hard to get her help. She really hated those drugs and wanted off of them so bad! She hated the person they turned her into. She wanted her life back. We moved her to 3 hours away (new people, places and things) the Saturday before she died. This was going to be the first day of the rest of her life, a new beginning. On the following Tuesday, she started the methadone clinic and was dosed that day. She was dosed again on Wednesday and on Thursday, the day she died. The day she died I talked to her at 10:00am, at 12 I couldn't get her. (She always answered my calls) I knew something was wrong....I called police to do a well check and told them if her car was home and she didn't come to the door to please go in, something was wrong. Her car was there and they refused to go in. I asked apt manager to go in, she refused. I left work hysterical and picked up my other daughter and granchildren, drove 3 hrs, broke in her apt and found her dead. The drug that was suppose to save her killed her......

The only peace I can find and have to hold onto is the fact that my (very shy) daugher walked into a church the Wednesday night before she died and was saved! She called me that night and said Mom, I feel great! Everthing is going to be ok. She said I'm praying for ya'll too. I could hear it in her voice. She was so happy!

I think that is so great that you are speaking out. I'm not that strong yet to speak in public, but I know I will get there. We have to stand together and get the message out about the dangers of these drugs. There are many things that can be done and it starts with the FDA and pharmaceutical companies.

My thoughts and prayers are with you,

Tonya

Hey Sharon, Thank you so much for sharing Jason's story with us. The post you made is extremely heartfelt and appreciated. Now we have joined together to fight this War on Drugs that is sweeping our country killing our children.I lost my 33 y/o daughter Wendy on April 5, 2006 due to a negligent doctor who prescriped her Methadone as a pain medication. I now know from her Autopsy and Toxicolgy Reports she died within 8 hours after taking her first dose. I was shocked to learn Methadone had been put on the market as a pain killer no longer used to only treat opiate addictions.Since Wendy's death I have been working with mothers who have lost their adult children to Methadone related deaths.Pharmacuetical Company's and Doctors have built a multi million dollar industry annually while pure GREED continues to kill innocent victims. People ask as I use to ," how do they sleep at night knowing they are killing our loved ones?" The answer is easy...they sleep in their million dollar homes and on luxury sheets. Again Sharon, I am so deeply sorry for your loss and look forward to getting to know you as we speak as mothers in honor of our loved ones.Love, Bren

Thank you for serving and protecting our country...

Bren,

Thank you so much for the kind words and I am so sorry about Wendy. I battled drugs for 10 years with my son Jason and the 6 year struggle with oxycontin was the hardest. I never dreamed I would lose him to an illegal dose of Methadone. I always thought because it was only in a clinic setting it was safe. I never knew until Jason died it was being prescribed for pain and on the streets. After losing Jason I now know better and it breaks my heart that Krista and Wendy who were given Methadone to help them legally also ended up dying. We will fight in Wendy's, Krista's and Jason's honor that other Mothers will never have to feel the loss we will share every day for the rest of out lives. God bless you for what you are trying to do to help prevent another needless young death.

Love,
Sharon

Yes I lost my son Matthew November 24th 2011 after taking a methadone pill. It was given to him by someone who went to a methadone clinic that gives out pills. he sold the pills to get heroin. this is called methadone death by diversion and methadone clinics need to stop letting the addicts go home with pills. Methadone is a far too dangerous drug and especially should not be trusted by addicts!!!

Monika, My deepest sympathy to you and your family on the loss of your precious son, Matthew. Diversion of Methadone is a huge problem in our country that contributes to these untimely deaths. One 10 mg Methadone pill alone can be fatal. Thank you for sharing what happened to Matthew with us for now we are our children's voices.
Love, Bren

My name is Bobbie Jean Pettypiece. I read all your posts and my heart goes out to you, I did not lose my child to this drug to this disease, but I did lose my soul mate and I would like to tell you all my story, My Evan's story. Evan was born on Nov. 30th 1991, he was the baby of two boys and grew up a runt. The boy never had a chunky stage ever he was just always so small but his personality he was larger than life. He was his dad's best fishing buddy and his mom's baby boy. He was all boy he was always causing trips to the ER and getting messy but his mom ,who is a saint, would just shake her head and roll with it. I am about 5 years older than Evan but we were meant to meet. In early 2009 I met the most handsome guy I had ever seen, still in high school all he talked about the first time I met him was joining the army and going infantry he dreamed of being a gunner. But for as serious as he was I noticed that no one could be around him without smiling always, his smile his laugh was infectious. 2010 came and went and he joined the Army National Guard here in Kentucky and came back home and was getting ready to deploy to Iraq. Up until this time I was just a girl who was one of the dudes but something happened the night of that going away bonfire. We just jumped feet first into a relationship we had been dating two days total when he left for Iraq. I waited and waited and then the pull out started but they did it in waves. Of course Evan was the last group to come home and we were talking one day (which was a rare and special occasion) and I was whining and asking when it'd be my turn for my homecoming, Evan got very quiet and said "Baby as soon as my job here is done I will come home to you". When I ordered his funereal flowers I wrote "Baby as soon as my job here is done I will come home to you and this time it's forever no more goodbyes." I don't know how many of you are very familiar with the disease of addiction but I tried to fuss at first because while I knew he partied I saw it getting worse and more frequent and I got scared and flipped out so Evan left me but as soon as he called I went right back and then he left again and I was waiting for my phone call. Because of drugs and addiction he pushed away anyone who actually loved him, all that remained were those "friends" who used drugs with him and encouraged his habit. Even after he left he asked me to not file for divorce he told me he just needed 6 months to get better and then we'd be awesome again, I believed him. I asked my sister-in-law to let me know how he was doing from time to time and she did. This happened on the first of October. On Nov. 2nd 2012 I got a phone call from a mutual friend of ours that I hadn't talked to in a while so I got excited thinking some hang time was in order. I answered and said "what's up you haven't called in forever", she then said "Bobbie Moose is gone", and I said "well where'd he go" and she said "no Bobbie he's like dead"...My heart sank he promised me he was getting better and then we'd have the perfect life with babies and a house and a life with the only man I wanted a life with. I called my sister-in-law to confirm and as soon as she answered I knew, my Evan was gone. I sat with him at the funereal home the day of his funereal because it opened at 8 but the service didn't start until 11 and he hated being alone so I sat with him and played the i-pod he'd given me with all "our" songs on it. His mom took my hand and said "we just hafta get through today" and she held onto me the whole time. I was escorted by his Sergent that day because his mom had his dad and his sister-in-law had his brother but I didn't have my Evan so Sg.t Danny Soublo escorted me. I have some pictures and a flag left of Evan William Pettypiece my soul mate. The day Evan died all my dreams and hopes for the future went with him, no babies for us, no anniversery for us no nothing just a void. Evan used to say I was strong but I never thought I was until I got this will to fight from somewhere deep inside me.... but I have teamed up with Operation Unite here in KY to speak at high schools and tell Evan's story to help other people with this disease and to prevent hopefully at least one kid from using and as soon as I got the autopsy report and was angry at the world I researched Methadone and got even angrier so now I am picking up this fight. I saw the strongest man I have ever known fight so fiercly for his life that it took my breath away and now I just pick up where he left off.... I love you Evan forever and always, two against the world!! <3

Hey Bobbie, I had posted to you last night on Facebook telling you how deeply sorry I am about your great loss, Evan. What a sweet picture this is of you both smiling. You must feel like half of you has been lost since Nov. 2, 2012. I am here to help you through your grief and sorrow anytime day or night. That is wonderful you have teamed up with Operation Unite in Kentucky. Education and spreading the message about Evan's story is a powerful tool. You are his voice now Bobbie and as we join together to fight against this epidemic of Methadone Deaths all across the United States. May God pour out His abundant blessings upon you. Love, Bren

[img][/img]Hello,
My name is Karen Zimmerman, my son Brandon Zimmerman died from methadone 7/15/2006 he was 20 years old. My life was shattered that day. I would love to get this dangerous drug off the market completely!! At the very least used for addictions only, meaning monitored and administered by those educated in the dangers. My son was a beautiful person, full of goodness and potential. He was a student at UW Madison, on the Dean's list 3 out of the four semesters he was there. During the summer after his sophomore year he was home. He went out with some friends one night. I found him in bed the following morning....... I am a nurse, I knew he was dead, still I tried frantically to bring warmth and movement back into my baby doing CPR even as the paramedics arrived and tried to stop me. Brandon leaves behind three younger brothers who adored him.....

I later learned that my son Brandon and another boy (known to use drugs, in and out of rehab), split a single Methadone pill. The other boy lived to see another day, my son did not. Toxicology confirmed the methadone as well as a small amount of alcohol (2 or 3 beers). I will do anything to get this drug out of the hands of our kids.
Brandon Michael Zimmerman 10/22/1985 to 7/15/2006

Karen, First let me say how deeply sorry I am on the great loss of your son, Brandon. I am sorry for the reasons but glad you have found us here on the site. We must join together in fighting this battle of Methadone deaths here in the United States. The shock of finding Brandon we all can relate to unfortunately. Methadone is a highly addictive deadly drug that is being prescribed for addiction and now in the last decade for pain medication. I lost my daughter Wendy on 4/5/06 due to a negligent doctor prescribing her Methadone for pain. One 10 mg pill can and will kill as you well know. We would appreciate any ideas or input you have to offer. Karen we will always love and remember Brandon and make a stand for him along with our other children.Thank you for sharing your story with us. Love, Bren

Cheryl,
I am so sorry for the loss of your son. My daughter was also only 23 and died on her 3rd day. This happens more frequently than many would believe. There were 5000 methadone related deaths in 2009 in the US and 174 in 2012 in my state of Georgia. Where are you from? You have come to the right place for information and support. If you feel more comfortable using PM we can communicate that way. How long has it been? We also have a website www.stopmethadonedeaths.com and a facebook page Stop Methadone Deaths. Also if you have not done so already, please sign the petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/stopmethadonedeaths/. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I look forward to talking to you.

HUGS,

Tonya
