INADEQUATE TREATMENT OF OVARIAN CANCER AND NONEXISTANT PREVENTION OF PRESCRIPTION OPIATE OVERDOSE DEATHS
MARCH 23, 2013/ BY: Dr. Nayvin Gordon
The New york Times editorialized on March 14, 2013 : “A new study has found widespread failure among doctors to follow CLINICAL GUIDELINES for treating ovarian cancer, which kills 15,000 women a year in this country”. The Times continues : “A decade ago RAND corporation researchers reported that just 55% of a large sample of patients suffering from a broad range of diseases received care that met QUALITY GUIDELINES”.
When will the New York Times editorialize about the 37,000 people killed each year by prescription opiate (narcotic) overdose deaths? (Center for Disease Control 1/13/12). Will The New york Times report that there are NO NATIONAL ESTABLISHED GUIDELINES for treating chronic non cancer pain with opiates? Will the New York Times write that according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC 2012), methadone has been linked to 30% of overdose deaths, and that in the USA there are NO CLINICAL GUIDELINES for methadone treatment of chronic non cancer pain? The New York Times has not informed us that the Canadian National Opioid Use Guideline Group published in 4/30/10 the “Canadian Guidelines for Safe and Effective use of Opioids for Chronic Non Cancer Pain”.
The treatment of ovarian cancer may be inadequate, but the Prevention of Prescription opioid overdose deaths is non existent.
Will the New york Times call for National USA Guidelines for the use of opioids?
How many more must die???
